"The People Under the Stairs" ~ 1991
Netflix description = Master of horror Wes Craven brings an urban twist to the classic fairy tale. In the story of Fool, a 13 year old lad who succumbs to ghetto pressures to steal from a local house. Fool's instant karma comes in the gruesome form off the houses residents - - an insane, deformed family of murderers. The perils of latch-key kids and warnings about absentee parents are the subtle social subtext as Fool and other victims try to escape the deadly home.

It had been at least 20 years since I had seen this movie so it felt totally new to me and I enjoyed it immensely. It is very tame by todays standards but still a really good, fairly twisted tale. Not gorey, not scary, but a good creepy movie! I didn't get any of the "social subtext", but still definitely worth the watch. There is a good reason that this movie is considered a classic!
My score 3/5
