"VHS: Viral" ~ 2014
Netflix description = During a police chase, amateurs rust to shoot videos they hope will go viral, unwittingly casting themselves as victims in a cyber horror story.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love short anthology films, and I am a fan of the "VHS" films, but I felt this one fell short of the former two films. Like any anthology some shorts I loved, others not so much as some storylines are stronger. Some of the weaker stories are just confusing. Overall an average movie with potential to be so much better. Still worth watching.
"Hansel Vs Gretel" ~ 2015
"Hansel Vs Gretel" ~ 2015
Netflix description = When his twin sister, Gretel, is seduced by a coven of witches, Hansel and his crew fight to liberate her from their enchanting clutches.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I started watching this unknown that it was a sequel to "Hansel and Gretel" ~ 2013. Which is one of my favorite tellings of the story. This did not disappoint. It was the same perfect blend of good storytelling, dark humor and gore. The modern re-telling is a fun ride and this movie definitely worth the watch. Seeing the first one is helpful, but not necessary.
My score 3.5/5

"Dark Ride" ~ 2006
Netflix description = Years after a series of grisly murders shut down a roadside theme park, six college students make an impromptu visit and tempt fate by taking the dormant Dark Ride for a spin. But the killer still looms in the bowels of the park.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I liked this movie. Any movie that gives a kill scene before opening credits usually holds my attention. This movie was a fun teen scream, slasher flick with lots of dark humor. There were some surprises and some gore, but mostly it was just a fun campy movie. Worth the watch!
"Detention" ~ 2011
Netflix description = When a past her prime prom queen with homicide on her mind shows up to senior prom, its not just the kids in detention who miss the big event.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So this turned out to be nothing like I was expecting. This movie is a wild ride that leads you on a tangle of twwists and turns. At times I did find it all a little confusing but all questions were answered by the end. Definite dark comedy and worth the watch!

"Stage Fright" ~ 2014
Netflix description = The musical and slasher genres converge as a brutal killer starts picking off the teenagers attending a summer theater camp.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I saw a review calling this movie "Sleepaway camp meets Glee", and Minnie Driver and Meatloaf in the credits, I knew I had to watch! This movie is teen scream silly and I loved it! Honestly the acting is marginal and the songs terrible, but the cliches make it even better. If looking for a dark comedy this movie is certainly worth the watch!
"All Cheerleaders Die" ~ 2013
Netflix description = When a high school outsider joins the pep squad to carry out a vendetta, supernatural forces intervene - - and a ghoulish battle of the sexes ensues.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was a ridiculously silly, fun, teen scream movie. There is dark humor from the beginning and even an unexpected plot twist. Again the story and effects are ridiculous but for plain old mindless entertainment its worth watching!

"Axed" ~ 2012
Netflix description = A strict dad loosens up and lets his kids take a day off from school for a trip to the countryside. But he intends to make it their last outing ever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The above description from Netflix really sugar coats the reality of the movie itself. I found that this movie had it all, a strong, yet twisted storyline, plus the character development to get viewer (me) involved. Also some good dark humor moments perfectly placed. Overall I really really liked this movie and certainly worth the watch!!
Netflix description = Six apparent strangers, each close to committing suicide, awake in a bizarre prison and find themselves forced by a psychopath to play a deadly game.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I thought that this was a fun creative movie. There are several stories all in one and each with its own intrigue. I really enjoyed "the games" and in result "the lessons" learned. Overall very good movie, with good storyline and message. Definitely worth the watch!!

"Mum and Dad" ~ 2008
Netflix description = Lena accepts a ride with her cheerful co-worker Birdie only to find herself knocked unconscious and imprisoned by a deranged family of murderers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was one of the more twisted movies that I have seen in quite a while, and coming from me thats pretty high praise. The storyline was... intriguing and certainly entertaining. Basically good movie, definitely worth the watch, but be prepared for a couple shockers!
Double Feature: "Wishmaster" ~ 1997 & "Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies" ~ 1999
"Wishmaster" ~ 1997
Netflix description = Accidentally released after being trapped inside a gemstone for centuries, a demonic entity, sets out to grant 3 wishes to regain his human form. Though the genie makes dreams come true, it also wreaks havoc on those who succumb to its offer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I consider this to be a Wes Craven classic! The wishes are creatively taken care of, making this such a fun watch. Lots of gore and great kill scenes, also lots of dark humor. Its a definite go watch!!

"Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies" ~ 1999
Netflix description = When an ancient evil entity known as The Djinn is accidentally released after being trapped in a stone for centuries it sets out to grant 3 wishes so it can regain its human form, wreaking havoc on the souls who succumb to its offer. (Sound familiar lol)
Watching both movies back to back was a treat. The wishes are much more creative, as are the kill scenes. Another thing I particularly liked was the back story of the Djinn. Great fun, funny, campy movie! Also a definite go watch!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh how I love 80s horror! This movie was so full of cliches and I enjoyed every minuete of it! This is a fun joyride with lots of twists and turns and surprises around each turn. Some gore but overall just a good, fun, flick! Certainly worth the watch!!
"Tales from the Darkside: The Movie" ~ 1990
Netflix description = In this feature spin-off of the creepy television anthology, psycho chef Betty plans to cook a little boy. The crafty tyke however, stalls the violence by distracting Betty with three tales of terror.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I consider this in the no matter how many times I watch it, its always wonderful, movie catagory. I love the short film / anthology movies and these three all well told and just a fun watch overall!
Also, as my little horror hounds know, anything with Christian Slater automatically gets an extra star.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although it had a slow beginning, I ended up really enjoying this movie. The storyline is tight and the characters engaging. There is a lot of blood and gore even though the kill scenes are fairly muted. All in all, just a good movie and definitely worth the watch!!
"Hansel and Gretel" ~ 2013
Netflix description = In this modern retelling of this classic horror tale, siblings are enslaved by a psychotic and possibly cannibalistic recluse within her gruesome house of horrors deep in the woods.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really enjoyed this modern, up to date fairy tale. The changed enough of the storyline to still keep it interesting, new and just fun. Some gore, but not a lot and a great ending. If looking for something fairly tame, but highly entertaining, then I would definitely say worth the watch!!

Netflix description = When a street drug turns junkies into an army of zombies, Hunter finds himself with nothing but a beat up car and a trunk full of guns and booze. Eventually he stumbles across a small band of survivors.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was an interesting twist on a zombie movie. A street drug so highly addictive that it turns everyone into zombies... I guess a new twist on an old favorite. The kill scenes were pretty epic and lots of action. Certainly worth the watch!!
"Don't go in the Woods" ~ 2010
Netflix description = A group of indie rockers seek solitude deep in the woods to write songs for a new album. But they soon realize they're not alone when a sledgehammer brandishing intruder arrives in this chilling musical slasher flick.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This had the possibility of being a really good movie... If they had musically just had "the band" doing the singing that in itself would have been an improvement. Other than trying to hard to be a musical it was a good, fairly exciting storyline with a great ending. Worth the watch!!

Double Feature ~ "Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers" and "Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland"
"Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers" ~ 1988
Netflix description = Five years after a series of horrifying murders left Camp Arawak looking like armageddon, the killer returns to the scene of the crime to work as a camp counselor. But since Angela Baker looks like a normal everyday 20 something, only she knows what shes truly capable of.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I wanted a campy 80s slasher flick, and was so NOT disappointed. This had all the cheesy elements, right down to the big hair. :) It is your basic simple plot line, but a fun watch!!
My score 3/5
"Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland" ~ 1989
Netflix Description = Axe wielding Angela returns for more gore in this third installment which finds the crazed killer chopping up participants at a retreat that brings together rich and poor kids. Posing as a camper, Angela joins the culturally diverse group - - but as expected, the camps feel good philosophy escapes her. She soon goes about offing her fellow campers, an exercise she finds much more enjoyable than bonding with them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I enjoyed this installment even better than the 2nd. Now however I must find and watch the first lol. This movie was super entertaining fright from the start. The kill scenes were creative and the storyline fun. Definitely worth the watch!
